EYEGLASSES FOR VETERANS
These are difficult economic times for most of us, but for the elderly on fixed incomes, medical necessities such as prescription eyeglasses become an unaffordable luxury.
In memory of my dad, Dr. Lawrence Palmer, who spent almost five years in the Pacific theater during World War II serving in the Dental Corps, the Palmer Eyecare Centers in Middletown and East Hampton are donating a limited number of prescription bifocal eyeglasses to World War II and Korean War veterans from the greater Middletown area who cannot afford to purchase eyeglasses on their own.
We are asking veterans’ groups in the area to publicize this offer and nominate qualified veterans for the free eyeglasses. The recipients must be able to come to one of our offices in Middletown or East Hampton for an eye exam and eyeglass selection.
Serious vision problems are more common in the elderly. Simple tasks such as reading a book and watching TV can become almost impossible. Medical eye problems such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration can handicap an otherwise active adult.
All of these problems can be prevented, controlled or corrected by early diagnosis and treatment. But once the damage has been done to the visual system, it is almost impossible to undo.

Frame and lens packages, featuring scratch-coated lenses, begin at $169 for single vision prescriptions and $199 for bifocals. CONTACT LENSES
We believe that clean contact lenses are always better for eye health and recommend frequent replacement whenever possible. Frequent replacement may mean weekly to monthly to quarterly replacement. Previously, conventional wear schedules called for the same lens to be worn for a full year. In order to promote better eye health and continued successful contact lens wear, the contact lens industry has migrated from annual replacement to monthly and daily replacement.
