JEFFREY M. PALMER, OD
A Middletown native, Dr. Palmer is a graduate of Woodrow Wilson (now Middletown) High School, Adelphi University in Garden City, NY and the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA.
His background includes clinical experience at the Boston Eye Clinic in Boston, MA, the Hadassah/Hebrew University Medical Center, the Strauss Eye Clinic and the Jerusalem Institute to Prevent Blindness, all located in Jerusalem, Israel. Dr. Palmer received his DPA and TPA certification for use of diagnostic and therapeutic pharmacologic agents from the New England College of Optometry and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry respectively. His Advanced Optometric Care certification for the treatment of glaucoma was received from the State University of New York College of Optometry. |
Dr. Palmer is a Charter Member of the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association. He has been designing and fitting all types of custom contact lenses for over 40 years. He is also a certified PRIO computer eyestrain relief specialist.
Dr. Palmer is a member of the American Optometric Association (www.aoa.org), a founding member of the American Optometric Society, the Connecticut Association of Optometrists (www.cao.org), having served on its Board of Directors for 6 years.
Dr. Palmer is proud to be active in the Kiwanis Club of Middletown, having completed his term as President of the multigenerational club. Dr. Palmer's father, the late Dr. Lawrence S. Palmer, was the Charter President of the club in 1951. Through its numerous projects, the Kiwanis Club has been instrumental in helping thousands of local children and families live better lives.

MARTIN L. HELLMAN, OD, FAAO
A New Jersey native, Dr. Hellman attended The George Washington University in Washington, DC and the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. He practiced in the Waterford, CT area for many years before joining the Palmer Eyecare Center.
Dr. Hellman received his DPA and TPA certification for use of diagnostic and therapeutic pharmacologic agents from the New England College of Optometry and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry respectively. His Advanced Optometric Care certification for the treatment of glaucoma was received from the State University of New York College of Optometry. |
Dr. Hellman is a Member of the American Optometric Association, the Connecticut Association of Optometrists and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, which is an organization dedicated to teaching, research and education in the field of optometry.
CATHY KERKES
Cathy has been an integral part of the Palmer Eyecare family since the 1990s. She is our office manager and liaison with the various insurance and vision plan administrators.
SUSAN IVEY
Susan is part of our front office staff that interacts with patients, makes appointments, coordinates referrals to specialists and keeps the electronic records precisely accurate.

A Connecticut Licensed Optician, Sharon is an expert in the field of opticianry, having been fitting and dispensing eyeglasses and contact lenses for over 20 years. Her deep knowledge and understanding of the sophisticated optics of ophthalmic lens designs from the world renown lens fabricators Nikon, Hoya, Zeiss, Essilor and Shamir insures that patients will be thrilled with the quality of their vision through their new eyeglasses.
A precise eyeglass prescription from our doctors is only half of the formula for attaining high definition vision through new eyeglasses. Converting that prescription into an accurate product that meets the needs of the patient is something that licensed opticians are highly trained for.
After more than 25 years with the Palmer Eyecare Center, Sharon retired in 2022. We wish her a wonderful retirement.

Since he was 8-years old, Sam was first and only official beta tester of the innovative Palmer Eyecare Center series of LED pens. He is exquisitely qualified to test our trailblazing pens, having demonstrated their functionality and practicality all over the world. Many thousands have been distributed through the Palmer Eyecare Center over the years.
